still been thinking about it. to see if there’s anything left to think about.
Can a High-Fat Diet Beat Cancer?
The theory is simple: If most aggressive cancers rely on the fermentation of sugar for growing and dividing, then take away the sugar and they should stop spreading. Meanwhile, normal body and brain cells should be able to handle the sugar starvation; they can switch to generating energy from fatty molecules called ketone bodies — the body’s main source of energy on a fat-rich diet — an...
Cheap industrial food, the organic movement has argued, only seems cheap, because the real costs are charged to the environment (in the form of water and air pollution and depletion of the soil); to the public purse (in the form of subsidies to conventional commodity producers); and to the public health (in the cost of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease), not to mention to the welfare of...
In order to be effective a doctrine must not be understood, but has to be believed in. We can be absolutely certain only about things we do not understand.
Keith did a bang-up job of pointing this out in her book. She recounted a suggestion by some scientifically illiterate vegan that animals in nature should be separated by a big fence — the carnivores on one side, the herbivores on the other. ...

Amazing show tonight. Reminds me of why I took up music in the first place. To think that one day it will end. Sigh.

Most of my childhood drowned in fear, not knowing if I could survive, and doubting I wanted to. The prison of my fears became unlivable, so I found sanctuary in books, researching, studying and planning “ways out” of my conditions. I wish I could say there was some key person in my childhood who helped me discover that the borders of my circumstances were identical to the zone of my...

One of the most common criticisms I hear about low-carb diets are that “though they might be effective for weight loss, they often fail in the long run because when people get off of them, the weight comes back on.”
Uhhhhh… NO SHIT? It doesn’t matter what diet you used to lose body fat. If you return to eating poorly, your body is going to respond in kind. Does this even...
I see you driving ‘round town with the girl I love and I’m like… “hey, bro, take care of her.”
I wish women lusted solely for my body. I could lead on multiple women by flirting with them. Then I will only date women who pay for the date- I will offer to pay half but if she says yes I probably won’t date her again. I will have my selection of the girls with the flashiest cars and most money to spoil me with. If she doesn’t have her own place and a good job she can forget about...

Corn
Other, bigger hidden costs are also associated with corn-based cheap food. “We pay with our taxes, because it takes heavy, heavy government subsidies to produce food that cheaply,” Pollan says. “We pay with the public health system, with failing antibiotics [whose overuse in cattle has given rise to new antibiotic-resistant strains of ‘super-bugs’]. We pay with the...
Self-Groveling: bakery. →
So while in sanjose/milpitas to the doctor’s and to the dermatologist, my sister and I went to this bakery we usually go to when we’re in that area. So we get our usual: 1 greentea poundcake, 1 pinapple red bean bun, and 2 vitasoys (yea, we’re pretty lame), so when I’m about to pay, I turn around and make eye contact with, in my current state of mind, the most beautiful human being and we smile...

The government, the AHA, ADA, AMA, USDA and the rest should be telling the truth – that its the sugar and starches in our diet that are responsible for the epidemic increases in obesity, cancer, and type 2 diabetes in this country.
As Taubes has pointed out, hundreds of millions have been spent to prove that fat is bad, but every study ends up proving the opposite. And the researchers scratch...

Milk
On Monday (it’s Wednesday) my house ran out of whole milk and we didn’t have another jug on hand, so I figured it’d be as good a time as any to start a 30-day abstinence from dairy products to see if I’d feel any differently (presumably for the better). The general consensus in paleo/primal literature is that humans are not designed to drink milk after a young age, and...
At the show before my band’s set.
Friend: You gotta meet this guy. He’s a god! Female: Really? What kind of a god are you? *pulls from memory of Star Trek episodes* Me: Oh, I’m a Greek god. People don’t worship me anymore.

10 more lbs. to go
My weight gain goals have been making progress. I hit a plateau not too long ago with mid-day weigh-ins of 116, but have since overcome it. More recently I’ve been seeing 118ish, whilst maintaining ~8% body fat.
Now you might be asking, “Vincent, why is it so difficult for you to gain weight?” There are two reasons.
1) I have a really fast metabolism and a naturally slim build....
As people express their dread of gaining weight following Thanksgiving, I am reminded that such a fear is foreign to me.
I feast everyday.
